Elke dag ondervinden huishoudens in heel Europa de impact van de schommelende brandstof- en energieprijzen. Onze afhankelijkheid van fossiele brandstoffen maakt burgers kwetsbaar, terwijl olie- en gasbedrijven enorme winsten boeken.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Om de exit uit dit disfunctionele systeem te versnellen, zal een nieuw EU-programma miljarden euro\u2019s genereren om huishoudens te ondersteunen in de transitie naar schonere energie. Dit beleid, bekend als het Emissiehandelssysteem 2 (ETS2)<\/a>, zal een prijs zetten op de uitstoot van wegtransport en gebouwen. <\/p>\n

De invoering van ETS2 is echter al met een jaar uitgesteld. <\/a>Bovendien hebben veel overheden hun plannen om die budgetten te besteden niet op tijd ingediend. Zo worden aanzienlijke sommen geld tegengehouden die voor de burgers bestemd waren.<\/a><\/p>\n

De afgelopen 20 jaar heeft het beprijzen van vervuiling geholpen om de CO\u2082-uitstoot in de EU te verminderen en de afhankelijkheid van fossiele brandstoffen te verkleinen. Het eerste Emissiehandelssysteem (ETS1) dekt de zware industrie, energie, luchtvaart en scheepvaart. Een tweede systeem, ETS2, dat de uitstoot van gebouwen en wegtransport aanpakt, loopt nu vertraging op en de start is pas gepland voor 2028. <\/p>\n

Het is verontrustend dat veel parlementsleden en overheden al openlijk hebben aangegeven dit nieuwe systeem nog verder te willen uitstellen<\/a> of zelfs volledig te willen schrappen.<\/a><\/p>\n

Het beprijzen van vervuiling is goed voor mens \u00e9n planeet. Het genereert de nodige middelen om schone en energie-effici\u00ebnte oplossingen toegankelijker te maken<\/a> \u2013 van warmtepompen en woningrenovaties tot het verbeteren van ons openbaar vervoer.<\/p>\n

Cruciaal hierbij is het Sociaal Klimaatfonds<\/a>, dat samen met ETS2 wordt ingevoerd. Dit fonds is specifiek ontworpen om huishoudens te steunen die die hulp het hardst nodig hebben. Door de omvang van dit fonds uit te breiden, kunnen we nog meer mensen bereiken.<\/p>\n

CO2-beprijzing stelt ons in staat om onze afhankelijkheid van dure fossiele brandstoffen te doorbreken en de energiezekerheid van de EU te versterken door de controle weer in eigen handen te nemen. Deze transitie beschermt ons niet alleen tegen schommelende prijzen en klimaatverandering, maar zorgt ook voor een betere luchtkwaliteit en gezondere gemeenschappen. <\/p>\n

We roepen regeringen en Europese beleidsmakers daarom op om te stoppen met het uitstellen en verwateren van ETS2. Stop met het beschermen van de belangen van de fossiele industrie en verhoog de sociale ambitie van dit systeem. <\/p>\n
